The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is a tribute to Stephen Covey (October 24, 1932 – July 16, 2012).
Creativity is about turning new and innovative ideas into reality.
If you have ideas, but do not work on them, then you are more imaginative than creative, so work on these seven habits, and you will be very creative in your field:
1. Prepare:
“When you are creating, the only thing that is difficult is to begin.” James Russell Lowell
Creativity requires an absorbing mind, a state of relaxation, focus and attention.
2. Plant the seeds of creativity:
"We are what we think about. Everything that shapes us emerges with our thoughts, and with our thoughts we create the world."
3. Live the question:
As adults, we need to adopt a “beginner’s mind,” and ask questions, rather than trying to find immediate answers.
Also pay attention to the questions asked by others, especially artists, scientists, and thought leaders, and collect the questions that you find important.
4. Feed your mind:
“If you stuff yourself with poems, articles, plays, stories, novels, films, comic strips, magazines, you will find that you spring up and burst forth every morning like a sage from ancient times. I have never had a dry spell in my life, and that is mostly because I feed myself so well, to the point of bursting.” Ray Bradbury
5. Try and explore:
“I make more mistakes than anyone I know, and sooner or later I patent most of them.” Thomas Edison
6. Renew your creativity:
One creative describes her renewal process as varying fields. When she needs a break, she switches from one field to another.
7. The secret to unleashing your creativity:
Creativity takes many forms in business, the arts, design, education, and science.
When we express our creativity in these areas, we have the ability to work and live as creative people.
